Dot-2-Dot Cafe

We just couldn't wait to visit the newly opened Dot-2-Dot Cafe! We went on the second day they opened for brunch. Erin ate a slice of the quiche which was wonderfully flavored accompanied by a flaky crust. Chris had the special pancakes made with feta cheese, sundried tomatoes and spinach. Although the menu seemed limited on our visit, it changes daily along with the fresh baked bread made by the chef-owner. The cafe is clean and friendly, displays works by local artists on its walls, and has free wifi... a wonderful addition to Dorchester Ave.

I checked it out one day just before they closed up on a Saturday... at 2pm. The hours are really awful for a coffee shop. During the week they close at 7pm.

Since they just opened, they should *stay* open as long as they possibly can every day and figure out when people actually want to use the cafe, then be open for those hours. It's really more of a breakfast/lunch place, and I'm not sure if that's all that's needed. We really need a coffee shop where you can park for hours and do work.

We agree. It would be great if they (and all neighborhood coffee shops) were open later. By being open later in the evening, it allows people a place to spend time with friends, study, or read and really make the avenue a destination.

I have been to the cafe three times - two during the week after my walk and once on a Saturday. The food was good. Every time I've been there, there have been people there working on lap-tops.

I'm not sure who the owners are but they probably have to do things like sleep some time.

As I recall, the Ashmont Grill started out with fewer hours than it now has. Give them a chance. I think they're a great addition to the neighborhood.

Anything would be better than the Ashmont Grill. We have had three bad meals there, with some rough service. If Dot wasn't so desperate it would be gone already. Can't wait to try Dot2Dot, the prices look more digestable as well.

It would be really great if we could support Dot2Dot Cafe to open later for the ones who want a hang-out place. How can we spread the word to our neighbors and residents for the cafe to stay open? It has really good coffee, one of the best in Boston. Plus, their pastries are made daily so all ingredients must come fresh. It would be wonderful for it to stay open so I could do work, hang out or people-watch. However, I totally understand why they are close early. Is there a way to help keep this cafe survive in Dorchester?

Dot-2-Dot is pretty good. I would just suggest they start having free refills on coffee!

Went to Dot2Dot the other day. The hours are not well thought out and they should be opened later . . . felt rushed. Good breakfast/lunch option to the Ashmont Grill (that place really need a menu shake up, BORING same old stuff since they opened). The food was good, so was the coffee. I wouldn't call it the "best" in the area yet. Flatblack has that crown. I wish the place luck and will go back.

I love the Dot2Dot Cafe. I love to walk up there on Sunday morning and have my coffee and their delicious scrambled eggs. The price is right and I cannot live without a loaf of their whole wheat sunflower bread for more than a week. I love to toast it at home with a cup of tea. Karen is a great cook and a hospitable hostess. Welcome Dot2 Dot! never leave. Thanks, Trish McLaughlin

Great place. Love the atmosphere, food, people and especially the whole wheat sunflower bread. So happy to have it close to home.

If you've noticed that Dot2Dot has been closed, it's due to a robbery. They are now open again and really could use any donations you can spare in order to help. I really think this cafe will be a bright spot in the area and we should do our best to keep it open. I am not the owner or related to her. Just someone who will be opening her own business soon and wants to help other business owners.

We had not heard about this and a search of local media cannot corroberate it. If this is true it is certainly necessary to continuing supporting local businesses owners, and more importantly continue efforts to be on the look out for and reduce crime in our neighborhood. We will keep you posted if we hear any news about this...
